The Move to Uruguay

THE LAST time Martin Amis and his family decamped to their holiday home in Uruguay he was accused of having writer's block. This time, after the reviews for his latest novel, Yellow Dog, doubtless the charge will be shell-shock.
"I'm leaving the country after Christmas and will remain overseas for most of next year," the author tells Mandrake. "As a matter of fact, I plan to work on a series of short stories and I have an idea for a new novel."
His wife, Isabel Fonseca, who is half Uruguayan, will, he adds, continue work on her next project: a book about her father's country. Her uncle, the architect Rodolfo Fonseca, has designed and built a beach house which is almost ready for the family in Jose Ignacio, the exclusive town north of Punta del Este.
