18. Amis's wickedly comic portrait of Lorne Guyland owes something to Kirk Douglas. Guyland wants to rewrite his role in the film so that he dies sacrificing himself for the two female leads (while they look on, naked and weeping)--a variation on the Kirk Douglas character's sacrificial death at the end of Saturn 3.
