14. Laura L. Doan, "`Sexy Greedy' Is the Late Eighties": Power Systems in Amis's Moneyand Churchill's Serious Money, The Minnesota Review 34-5 (Spring-Fall 1990): 73. Doan's essay is a cautionary example of how not to practice ideological criticism. She demonstrates little sensitivity to the nuances of Amis's novel, favoring crudely formulated charges of classism and sexism that can't withstand close critical scrutiny. John Haffenden anticipated Doan in supposing that Amis wrote himself into Money so readers would not mistake him for Self--an interpretation that Amis rejects (Haffenden 11).
