Bit unnerving being confronted by Jim!'s big arse! like that...but I've taken to my bed for a few days & now feel ready to approach my PC again. The nightmare vision has stayed with me, however, of him! as our very own Ricky Martin swinging his sizeable Latino arse around the website with abandon. Living La Vida, er, MAD, if you like.
Perhaps I was getting a little maudlin, but as a man who is defined by a seemingly constant circuit of copiously administered & unfeasibly miniscule portions of eurofood & alcohol at 40 000 feet, my week puntuated only by the TFT glow of Jim!'s arse!, at least part of my 5.99 was repaid by the thought that there might be someone worse than me out there. And isn't there some question of whether Hornby is running out of ideas/going downhill given the fact that he wrote AaB in 1993, two years before High Fidelity was published? The latter being in fact a truly great return to form, incorporating much of Jim's well-taken criticism of AaB.
Anyway, that was not the purpose of my mail. I have hesitated to bring the subject up before, feeling it might be a little distasteful, but as it was MA who mentioned it originally...has anyone else has seen the interview in which he says he was molested three times in his youth, by a family friend & others? It is mentioned almost in passing - perhaps defensively. It is hard to talk about the relevance of the subject without sounding crass, but it made me think.
