Yes, i enjoyed the tell-all, bitter wickedness of this coke-addict former Hollywood producer. I knew many of the name-drops in her book from the Hollywood AA-scene back then. She frightens the marrow out of my bones on the page.(Talk about scary broads.) But did you read the roman à clef retort to Julia's bio from Erica Jong (referred to as 'Miss Piggy' in "Never Eat Lunch Again") who apparently had Ms Phillips as an agent/producer who opted her early 70's best seller "Fear of Flying? "I forget the title (look it up, Irv, will ya, pleez) It's about Erica's promiscuous scramble to get laid after her novel's success and her divorce from (Long Dong)Jong—all through her 30's & 40's- not that she stopped-except to write a book of her sexcapades- like we all care about a chubby New York woman's eagerness to have countless "zipless f**'s"<her fab term—and continues to in her-what? 60+s Oye ee vey!
Anyway I did love what Erica said about Julia. Hint: dont get caught in a catfight between two NewYork, jewish, literary mean-queens. Erica was seering and ruthless and just great...called Julia's nipples "dried up raisons".., not to be confused with "raison d'êtres."
As for Mini-Mart. (I love it.) Yes, he does pity himself, wouldn't you? and probably do.. He is surrounded by sycophants who tell him what a genius he is, how everything he writes will be canonized, but this still cannot retrieve his late father's love or grow him an inch taller. Have a heart, Irv. Jesus!
