MARTIN AMIS SEZ:

I have a sick thing for Joan Collins. I know, but there it is. How sick is my sick thing for Joan Collins? Pretty sick, I suppose. There are worthier---and younger---objects of fantasy: Rosanna Arquette, Cher, Fergie, Vanessa Del Rio. But Joan's advanced years are the essence of her appeal, and of her unreality. She looks as though she has packed half a century of ball-breaking, bankrupting sack-artistry into a mere couple of decades.

Recently I bought a very high-powered television that almost cast a shadow over my sick thing for Joan. In fact, I though of offering Sony a new sales slogan: "This is a TV so good that it makes Joan Collins look her age." But it doesn't---not quite. Nothing ever could. And if Joan should ever find herself short of dates, I shyly offer myself as an eager (though slightly aging) toyboy. But we'd better hurry it up, while time is still on our side.
