Funnily enough, I also took Lorne to be based on Chuckie Heston, but discussion on this board drew the conclusion that it was Kirk Douglas. This was because Douglas worked on Saturn 5, for which Martin wrote the screenplay and from which experiences he partly based the novel. I think Ray Winston got the MAD vote for John Self (see Gary Oldman's Nil By Mouth).
Martin Amis should be played by the same chap who played Mini-me in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.
