"Money" was ahead of it's time in a number of respects. In the last few years, Americans have become horribly infatuated with what goes on behind the scenes in the entertainment business. (i.e. "The Larry Sanders Show", Altman's "The Player", "Swimming With Sharks", etc...) Martin's "deconstructionist" insight into the absurd process of Hollywood filmaking was right on the money (no pun intended.) His characters were so perfect (Lorne Guyland would be Charlton Heston, I would assume,) that you could almost see this story taking place as you went from page to page. Maybe they should make a film about trying to make "Money" into a film. That would make sense. Gary O. would be great as John Self, but I was thinking more along the lines of that kinda overweight guy in "the Full Monty", who had to be talked into climbing up onstage. (Sorry I can't seem to remember his name offhand.) I wonder, would Martin Amis play Martin Amis? Or would you need Jim Carrey (or some other like-minded idiot) to even get the film green-lighted?
