The usual weekend wasteland on MAD...emails blowing around the deserted site like tumbleweed; only Trevino Enqvist-McCracken, Brooklyn & myself making occasional incursions into the wordswept tundra....

No I haven't seen South Park The Movie, but it got a good review in the same piece my Austin Powers comment came from - I think I'd enjoy it. The reviewer (Nigel Andrews in the FT - I rate him highly) was wondering how South Park got past the censors so easily when Eyes Wide Shut had problems. And on that topic...much as I admire Kubrick, his best films have been other people's good ideas, so I'm reading Arthur Schnitzler's Dream Story first to work out whether I really want to see Tom Cruise on the big screen. Kubrick is, I think, living...er, dead, disproof of Jim!'s assertion that good books can't be made into good films. Incidentally I was almost feeling sorry for Craig Cracktaker after his drubbing from the former below.

Have a good balmy w/e Brooklyn; the sunlight is creeping across my balcony as we speak & I'm about to fight my way through the motes (love that word) to get a beer...

...but before I go...I read recently that the fine uplifting ending of The Old Man and the Sea only broke the mould of Hemingway's usual miserable denouements at the urging of his then wife. How depressing, think I'll get that beer.
