By the way, we've talked about Amis's overused words and expressions before (eg unforgivable, dog's tongue like a scarf...). I think it was dear old Jezzaroona who pointed out that the poor man is unable to refer to an armpit without it being torched or fizzing, as his parody reminds us.
Re-reading the dirty bits in Success in the wee small hours of this morning, it occurred to me that every time he refers to a, er, BJ (and I don't mean Mr Instant Jarma, missus), he describes the fortunate recipient as having his 'belly watered with her tears' or somesuch. This occurs even more in his fiction than the charming 'fat but no tits: thanks a lot' sneer. Now I don't want to give too much away, and this is a family site, but this has never, ever happened to me (the watering eyes thing, I mean, not the act itself, natch). Jules: teach me, dear creature, how to think and speak: what am I doing wrong?
