Re-reading must be my thing at the moment! I was reading the Cadwallader/Jim Murphy posting war re London Fields and I thought this:

London Fields is involuted - ie its content is concerned wih its own genesis as are many Postmod. novels (I use this term asynchroniacally so as not to clever dick-ize Postmod or to say that it's something new) If this is so then it must be about the nature of discourse, in this case literary, novelistic discourse. How the hell is film going to capture that?! The medium is most definitely the message in the case of a NOVEL like London Fields and I don't think the film company where about to make a London Fields en Marienbad if you know what I mean. As Brooklyn said - it would have been good to see the screenplay (any one have any news?).

So sorry for not tossing my penny in at the time Jim Murphy.

PS - Isn't it so simple though - who the fuck writes good novel versions of classic films? Is anyone really going to bother writng their prose interpretation of *Taxi Driver* or *Festen* or *Tie Me Up Tie Me Down*?
