The thing to remember about the 'controversial' Ms Burchill is that its all pose, I honestly believe that she doesn't believe a word she says anymore. She seems to just write stuff to demonstrate how 'against the grain' she is and it's just boring, Thatcherite in the eighties when it was trendy to be left-wing, 'socialist' in the nineties when the 'commonconsensus' is that Socialism is dead. And lets not mention her status as self proclaimed spokesperson for the working classes whilst simultaneously banging on about how as a child she never fitted in with her working class class-mates. What I particularly like in this article is the use of "Us", not to mean "You and I dear reader " but "Myself and my oh so clever friends". Also notice for at least the second week in a row a jibe at Ex-Hubby Tony Parson's, barman, a pint of bitter and twisted please! Last weeks was pure class, it might be just me but in the context of the article it makes no sense whatsoever!

Spellcheck Fun: Julie Burchill = Julie Brutal and they say AI's just a pipe dream!

Personally I find Amis' desire to show "mercy" to his close family almost as embarrassingly arrogant and pretentious as the things he says to Bellow and Self in their back slapping interviews with each other. Honestly it's like something Hemingway would say, you'd think Amis would be above all that macho, masterful "this'll hurt me more than it hurts you" nonsense, wouldn't you. Talk about the ultimate authorial control!
