I have worked for Meals on wheels, Blockbuster video, BSM and the KGB.
The most Amissian place I ever worked was the benefits centre in Brixton. I handed out the giros to the local unemployed folk. They used to spin me all manner of reasons why they should jump to the front of the queue and get their cheque ahead of the people who weren't acting up.
The best blag, or so I thought, was a skaghead called Peter Green who repeatedly informed me that I'd better hurry up because he had an appointment to have his arm amputated because syringe abuse had killed a number of veins in his fore-arm and he had to lose it.
I kept him at 'arms' length (hohohoho) for the rest of the day and finally doled out his dough at 5:00. 'You cunt,' he said 'if they ask me why i'm late i'm gonna say it was the cunt down the DSS.'
Two weeks later (it's always two weeks isn't it) I saw the name Peter Green on my list and wondered to myself......
He bowls in with half an arm. 'I told you cunt.' 'So you did Peter, so you did.'
Strange Occupation, strange world.
